Taiwan`s Two Leading Foundries Report Their June Sales Report. TSMC`s Sales
Taiwan's two leading foundries report their June sales report. TSMC's sales
were TWD15.615bn, up 83.4% on June 2001. UMC also substantially improved on
2001 with TWD6.711bn in revenues, up 58.4%. Half year sales were up 21.5% at
TSMC (TWD79.972bn) and down 20.4% at UMC (TWD30.739bn).
Wafer cleaning equipment company SEZ reports orders worth EUR51.3m in Q2, up
on last year's EUR34.5m. The book-to-bill for the quarter is at 1.61,
compared with 0.77 last year. Sales are estimated at EUR31.9m, down on Q2
2001's EUR45.0. Order backlog at the end of the quarter was EUR40.1m. The
book-to-bill for the first half 2002 comes in at 1.13.
The Financial Times reports that Japanese companies have seen "unexpectedly
firm demand" for semiconductors. Matsushita Electric, Toshiba, Hitachi,
Fujitsu and NEC are all expected to report better sales. The Japanese
industry suffered huge losses from semiconductor production last year.
